What Is Men's Wellness and Hormone Health?

Men’s wellness can be affected by hormone levels, sleep, mental health, physical activity, nutrition, medical conditions, and vascular health. Testosterone levels can change with age, but symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, reduced strength, mood changes, or erectile difficulties can have more than one cause. A qualified healthcare professional can evaluate symptoms, medical history, medications, sleep, mental health, and relevant laboratory results to help identify appropriate care.

Common Concerns

  • Fatigue or decreased stamina
  • Reduced libido or erectile difficulties
  • Changes in muscle mass, strength, or body composition
  • Mood changes, anxiety, or difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep disruption or reduced recovery after exercise

Current Medical Treatments

Care should be individualized based on the underlying cause of symptoms, medical history, goals, and relevant test results. Established treatment may include lifestyle support, management of medical conditions, counseling, medications, or hormone therapy when clinically appropriate.

Standard Treatment Categories

  • Lifestyle support: Nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and treatment of relevant medical conditions.
  • Testosterone therapy: Prescription testosterone replacement therapy may be considered for appropriately diagnosed testosterone deficiency with clinical monitoring.
  • Erectile-dysfunction treatment: Medications such as sildenafil or tadalafil may be used when appropriate.
  • Mental-health support: Counseling or other care may help when stress, mood, or relationship factors contribute to symptoms.
  • Ongoing follow-up: Clinicians may monitor symptoms, laboratory measures, benefits, and potential side effects.

Regenerative Medicine Research for Men's Wellness

Regenerative medicine approaches, including platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, and cell-based products, are being studied for selected men’s-health concerns. Researchers are evaluating different products, delivery methods, treatment schedules, and outcomes related to erectile function, vascular measures, and quality of life.

What Researchers Are Studying

  • Be delivered safely and feasibly in carefully selected patients
  • Influence local tissue signaling and blood-flow measures
  • Be further evaluated for effects on erectile-function and other patient-reported outcomes
  • Help identify which products, delivery methods, and patient groups warrant additional research

PRP, cell-based products, and testosterone therapy are distinct approaches. Their evidence, intended use, risks, and monitoring needs differ.

Note: Stem cell and PRP therapies for sexual wellness or hormone-related concerns are investigational and are not FDA-approved for these uses. Research findings do not guarantee individual results.

How Regenerative Medicine for Men’s Wellness Is Being Studied

Researchers are studying PRP and cell-based approaches in selected men with erectile dysfunction and related concerns. Studies evaluate safety, erectile-function scores, vascular measures, hormone-related laboratory measures, and quality-of-life outcomes. This work is helping identify the approaches and patient groups that warrant continued clinical study. Regenerative treatment for men’s wellness remains investigational.

Recent Clinical Research on Men's Wellness and Hormone Health

2024: PRP Meta-Analysis Reported Improved Erectile-Function Outcomes Compared With Control Treatment

Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction: A Meta-Analysis of Controlled and Single-Arm Trials — Read Study

This 2024 meta-analysis reviewed research on PRP for erectile dysfunction, including 12 controlled trials with 991 participants and 11 single-arm trials with 377 participants. Overall, men who received PRP had greater improvements in erectile-function scores than those in the control groups and were more likely to experience a meaningful improvement. These findings support continued research into PRP as a potential treatment for erectile dysfunction, although treatment methods varied across the studies.

2024: Bone Marrow-Derived MSCs Reported Erectile-Function Improvements in Men With Diabetes

Stem Cell Therapy in Diabetic Men With Erectile Dysfunction: A 24-Month Follow-Up of Safety and Efficacy of Two Intracavernous Autologous Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Injections, an Open Label Phase 2 Clinical Trial — Read Study

This phase 2 clinical trial studied two injections of a patient’s own bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in men with diabetes and erectile dysfunction. Participants were followed for two years. Treatment was generally well tolerated, and participants reported improvements in erectile function and erection hardness, with penile blood flow also improving at three months, although some of the benefits decreased over time.

2024: Testosterone Therapy Reported Improved Sexual Activity and Desire in Men With Hypogonadism

Effect of Testosterone Replacement Therapy on Sexual Function and Hypogonadal Symptoms in Men With Hypogonadism — Read Study

This randomized, placebo-controlled study included 1,161 middle-aged and older men with low testosterone and low sexual desire. Participants received either testosterone gel or a placebo and were followed for up to two years. Men who received testosterone reported greater improvements in sexual activity, sexual desire, and symptoms related to low testosterone than those who received placebo, although testosterone did not significantly improve erectile function compared with placebo.

Could Regenerative Medicine for Men's Wellness Be Right for You?

For men with persistent symptoms related to energy, sexual wellness, or hormone health, testosterone replacement therapy and other regenerative medicine approaches may be topics to discuss with a healthcare provider. A consultation can help review symptoms, medical history, relevant lab results, medications, lifestyle, and treatment goals. You may also wish to learn more about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and PRP therapy, since the evidence for a particular approach may differ by diagnosis, treatment method, and outcome measured.

At Stemedix, we take a patient-centered approach to regenerative medicine, informed by emerging clinical research. Our team reviews your medical history, current treatment plan, and goals to help determine whether an investigational regenerative approach may be appropriate to explore.

Umbilical Cord MSC Exosomes and Disc Health: A New Look at Back Pain Research

Why Disc Degeneration Matters Back pain and neck pain are extremely common, and one major contributor is intervertebral disc degeneration. The intervertebral discs sit between the bones of the spine and help absorb shock, support movement, and keep the spine flexible. Over time, these discs can lose structure, hydration, and strength. When this happens, it…
