Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of general answers to some common initial questions regarding Regenerative Medicine Therapy. If you have further questions or would like to discuss your eligibility, please feel free to contact us and consult with a Stemedix Care Coordinator.

Will stem cell therapy cure my condition?
No. Although we make no claim of cures, significant improvements and long-term stability is a goal that Stemedix is continuously trying to improve and achieve with each patient.
What is the success rate overall?
Success is unique to each individual based on specific conditions and improvements of what that patient considers to be an improvement and success for their condition. For example, a success measure may be able to regain strength in their right arm or perhaps improvement in bladder control. Each patient is unique in their degree of symptoms which then equates to different degrees of success. Although damaged cells cannot be fully reversed, these treatments can potentially help manage your symptoms and reduce the effects of further damage.
What type of doctor should administer the treatment?

A board-certified provider who performs administration techniques that they are specialized in and meets a high level of excellence.

What if I have to travel?

Hotel accommodations and ground transportation can be facilitated for those traveling.

What are autologous adult stem cells?

Autologous adult stem cells are derived from the same individual’s body from either the bone marrow aspirate or adipose (fat) tissue.

Adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells found throughout the human body that form after growth and development. Stem cells are the fundamental elements of life that can differentiate into specialized cell types.

Adipose Stem Cell – Adipose (fat) tissue has the highest concentration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and can produce millions of cells that will repair, replenish, and rejuvenate one’s body immediately.

Bone Marrow Stem Cell – Found in the bone marrow aspirate of the hip are hundreds of thousands of newly created hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). These stem cells are active and capable of forming new blood cells in place of damaged or injured tissues.

What are umbilical cord derived stem cells?
These cells are some of the youngest, meaning they possess a longer cell life than those derived from adults. These umbilical cord stem cells are derived from the Wharton’s Jelly, which lines the vessels in the umbilical cord. The Wharton’s Jelly is comprised of 80% mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) making it extremely potent. MSCs are considered undifferentiated cells that have the ability to replicate many tissues of the body. Because this is not a blood-derived source, this is extremely safe and does not require HLA or phenotypic matching.
How long is a stem cell therapy procedure?

Procedures may last between 2-4 hours depending on the type of stem cell therapy. The procedure is a same day (outpatient) treatment and does not require an overnight hospital stay. Each treatment will have a pre and post-treatment consultation by their performing provider.

What cell treatment is best for me?
Once your records, blood work and Medical History Form are carefully reviewed by our medical team, a customized treatment plan will be suggested for your condition.
How soon can I schedule a treatment?

Once the patient is approved, they can schedule as early as 2 weeks.

Does Stemedix provide medical transportation if necessary?

Yes, any medical requirements will be discussed and planned prior to your trip with your Care Coordinator. We provide transportation to and from the airport as well as the treatment facilities. For additional travel accommodation information, please visit one of our travel site pages under the “About” tab on Stemedix.com.

How do stem cells work?

Stem cells have the ability to self-renew, or divide, to replenish dying or damaged tissue of specialized cell types. They can be considered a natural repair kit that can regenerate cells damaged by disease, injury, or aging. Stem cell therapy utilizes stem cells to treat a variety of conditions. Once the stem cells are administered back into the body, they respond to inflammatory signals secreted by damaged cells.

Do you treat any additional conditions not listed on the website?

Yes, as stem cell research is constantly advancing, conditions are progressively being treated. Please contact your Care Coordinator to inquire or complete the contact form below.

Are there any known side effects to regenerative stem cell therapy?

There can be some minimal felt side effects from the incision or injection site, such as irritation, swelling, and/ or redness. No negative long-term effects to these procedures have been reported.

Will I need multiple treatments?

As many patients experience results with one treatment, some advanced cases with more severe symptoms may be recommended for multiple treatment consideration.

How long until I see results?

Each stem cell therapy treatment is unique to patients and their conditions. Therefore, no guarantee can be made of what results will be achieved or how soon results can be felt. However, patients may begin to experience results within a week with fuller effects felt within 6 weeks to 3 months. Depending on the severity of the patient’s condition and if multiple treatments are needed, it may take up to a year for results.

What is the follow up protocol?

The day after your treatment there will be a follow-up by your performing physician. Depending on your treatment method, your physician will review with you any necessary post-operative care. Once arriving home, continue any regularly scheduled appointments with your primary and/or specialized physicians and you will receive a call from your Care Coordinator a week post treatment.

Additionally, you will receive the RAND-36 Questionnaire Survey at the six-week, three-month, six-month, and one-year mark post treatment. This survey is a widely used health-related quality of life (HRQoL) survey instrument in the world today and assesses eight health concepts.

Is it necessary to have a companion with me for my treatment?

It is important to have a good support from family and loved ones so a companion is encouraged.

What are Stemedix patients saying?

Take a look at our patient videos or patient testimonials to see what our patients have to say.

Does health insurance cover the cost?

Health insurance in the United States does not provide coverage for these procedures at this time. Please visit our fundraiser and finance pages on stemedix.com under the “About Us” tab for possible options that may help.

Are there any moral issues associated with stem cell therapies?

Stemedix does not utilize embryonic or fetal stem cells and is therefore not related to any controversial debate.

Do you add any chemicals, additives or any substance to your stem cell therapy procedures?

It is illegal to manipulate the stem cells once harvested. We do not add anything to the procedures outside of platelet rich plasma (PRP) which acts as a natural growth factor or “booster” which is extracted from the patient’s own blood.
