What is HBOT?
Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy provides the inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber that has a controlled and increased atmospheric pressure. This therapy is proven to enhance the body’s natural healing process. Normally, oxygen is carried throughout the body exclusively through red blood cells. However, with HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of the body’s fluids, the plasma, the central nervous system fluids, the lymph, and the bone. Areas of the body that are lacking oxygen, or Ischemia, will begin to receive oxygen again. White blood cells are enhanced by the extra amounts of oxygen, which allows for the killing of bacteria, reduced swelling and growth of new blood vessels. Damaged or injured cells begin to replicate using your DNA to create new non-damaged cells.
What are the benefits of HBOT with Stem Cell Treatment?
Without appropriate levels of oxygen in the tissue, healing cannot take place. In many cases, such as: circulatory problems; non-healing wounds; and strokes, adequate oxygen cannot reach the damaged area and the body’s natural healing ability is unable to function. HBOT increases the synthesis of nitric oxide, which signals the release of stem cells. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy improves the quality of life of the patient in many areas when standard medicine is not working. How is this different than breathing regular oxygen?
At sea level, normal air has 21% oxygen. With a pressurized oxygen chamber, the plasma or liquid portion of your blood becomes saturated, increasing the oxygen levels in areas where blood supply has been reduced. The pressure allows for healing to occur that enables fibroblasts (tissue cells), capillaries (circulatory), osteoblasts (bone cells) and stem cells to be stimulated.
What is the length of the treatment?
Most treatments take approximately 90 minutes to “dive” and to come up from prescribed pressure.
How is HBOT administered?
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy takes place in a private, monoplace chamber made of clear acrylic. Patients are in constant view and communication with the technician and are able to watch television, listen to music or just rest.
Do I need a prescription for this therapy?
Whenever 100% Oxygen is administered, the FDA considers it a drug and therefore a prescription from a medical doctor is required. Stemedix will have you sign a waiver that allows our physicians to write the script for you.
Are there any side effects of HBOT?
Due to there being a pressure change, you could experience Barotrauma to the ears and sinuses. This is easily addressed by using learned techniques designed to promote adequate clearing of the ears during compression (similar to clearing your ears on an airplane). Some changes in vision may be noticed during the treatment but are usually minor and temporary. An extremely rare side effect that could occur is oxygen toxicity, which is caused by receiving too much oxygen.
Who can benefit from HBOT?
Anyone can benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It can prevent circulatory problems, symptoms of aging, debilitating inflammation as well as help with rapid recovery of injuries. Most infections can be helped with this treatment as bacteria does not thrive well with an oxygenated environment. Cancerous tumors are another occurrence in the body that does not like oxygen.
How does it work?
Breathing 100% oxygen under pressure stimulates the DNA in each cell and acts as a catalyst to promote the growth of new, healthy tissue without the use of compromised blood vessels. It is a drug-like effect on the DNA and other components of the cells in your body. The oxygen eliminates the inflammation, reduces swelling and eliminates the pain.
How does HBO treat a brain injury or stroke?
When trauma or lack of oxygen occurs, cells in the brain begin to die. When this happens, blood plasma leaks out into the surrounding brain tissue causing swelling and reducing blood flow. These otherwise normal cells go dormant because they can’t function without the appropriate amount of oxygen. HBOT dramatically increases the oxygen carried in the blood plasma, making oxygen available to heal damaged capillary walls, preventing plasma leakage and reducing swelling. Blood flow can be restored to the dormant tissue as the swelling decreases and these cells then have the potential to function again.
